Accidents are not generally something which you tend to associate with the railways in Britain any more.
However, both the events in Scotland and the Potters Bar inquest stand as testament to the genuine horror which we feel as a nation when something really does go wrong.
We are now facing a time of austerity and there have been concerns raised over safety and the effect which budget cuts will have on that.
However it would probably be better for us all to concentrate on getting things right and not arguing over the details.
