PR is a curious beast.
I suppose that those in control have always used it in one form or another to redirect the attention of the masses. But in the days of rolling news coverage and internet surely PR or spin has had its day?
Take the recent argument between Scotrail and the RMT
over whether or not to employ guards on the new Airdrie to Bathgate, for example.
RMT want guards on the A to B trains. Scotrail don’t. So
they get in an argument about it. The RMT say they have withdrawn their threats of industrial action in favour of launching legal action. Scotrail say there is now no
argument. RMT continue to push for legal action against Scotrail. Scotrail send press release to media outlets
denying any argument. And so on and so on.
What is the point?
