Proposed changes to rail services in Scotland have been met with heavy criticism, especially those which involve cutting services, or increasing journey times and fares.
With passenger demand increasing, the way services are run will have to change in order to adequately cope with the future.
And while banning alcohol on board would be a welcome change for many passengers wishing to travel in peace, could harm the already stretched finances of Transport Scotland.
Removing services, such as the sleeper train from Edinburgh, could also harm their profits, depending on the amount of passengers they will lose if this proposal goes ahead.
However, the consultation document also includes several positive ideas, such as examining the definition of punctuality and improving performance in a more passenger-centric way.
Change is going to happen to the rail industry in 2014, and with so many different opinions and motivations, it will be a difficult task to provide a compromise that appeals
