The rail industry is in need of reform in order to provide improved services at a reduced cost. Unions are concerned that the Government believes that McNulty’s review will deliver guidance to make these necessary changes, and are protesting against Parliament in an attempt to stop this.
If they disagree with the review, and they obviously do, I wonder if they have any better ideas of how to bring down costs significantly, whilst still improving the rail service for passengers?
Fare increases have been criticised, because no-one wants to pay more for something that they rely on. But multiple large infrastructure projects need funding somehow, and most of the rail industry would agree on the benefits of expanding our network.
It will be interesting to see how the Government responds to the review, and whether this rally will have any significant effect on their chosen course of action.
