The Edinburgh tram decision is being contested…again.
Just when we all thought it was finally over, after councillors voted to stop the project at Haymarket instead of St Andrew Square, the ruling Liberal Democrats on the city council are pushing for a rethink and a meeting will be held on Friday to consider the financial consequences of this verdict.
The public responded angrily to the decision last week, and now the Scottish Government is also threatening to withdraw vital funding for the project if it stops short.
The sense of uncertainty currently present in the rail industry is making any ‘final’ decision just another challenge to contest it.
With all this political ping-pong ensuing, ministers and councillors would be wise to remember they should be fighting for the same thing; better transport for the public that is financially viable.
