It was good to see high speed rail getting a mention in the Queen’s speech yesterday, even if it was only brief.
Given our current economic situation, I think that it was the best we could have hoped for.
The trouble is, of course, that the previous government had managed to fill people’s heads with endless spending promises which it could never have hoped to honour, but
has left it to the coalition government to pick up the pieces.
It also seemed a little ironic to hear Bob Crow talking about
the ‘urgently-needed modernisation of the UK's rail network’, given his slightly archaic views towards modern working practices.
