No one is looking forward to drastic cuts in the Department for Transport’s spending on rail, but this weekend the British Chamber of Commerce have deemed the situation serious enough put their concerns into writing.
In particular it noted three major rail expansion projects which it said were crucial to the buoyancy of Britain’s economy. These were the northern rail hub, electrification and extra carriages.
Whilst I can clearly see the case for more rolling stock and electrification, I am not sure whether the economic situation would permit such a huge amount of spending, when there are so many other areas with rail which are in need of that investment.
