There has been a deluge of requests made to the government’s Spending Challenge website - which asks for suggestions from the public on how to cut public spending - for the High Speed 2 project to be axed, in order to save money.
Although one must admit that the cost of building such a huge infrastructure project would high, it would also create jobs in rail, along with further indirect investment and spending which would do wonders for the economy.
I suppose then it is simply a case of whether the benefits outweigh the costs.
