There has been much talk about how much can be saved through the natural wastage of jobs in rail. So why doesn’t this apply to management as well?
At a time when it was locked in a dispute over the axing of 1500 rail maintenance jobs –which will result in there being many fewer people available to fix our railways – Network Rail actually created a new management role of director for stations.
Now I realise the valuable role which management plays in the running of the rail industry, but they must also realise the political damage which they do to themselves when they have one rule for track workers and another rule for themselves.
After all, they expect track workers to do more with fewer people. Shouldn’t Network Rail management be doing the same?
