Once again the arguments have begun about the upcoming increase in rail fares.
On the one hand, there are the passenger groups who say that fares are high enough and that passengers deserve more for less. Then on the other hand there are the train operating companies who say that this money is need for reinvestment in the rail network.
But wait a minute… was it not only just a few months ago when the TOCs were celebrating being offered longer franchises that would allow them to invest more in our railways? Why not brig that investment forward now?
