Despite train operators’ and Network Rail’s best efforts it seems that the industry is struggling to cope with the heavy snowfall and freezing conditions in many parts of the country.
According to the BBC, thousands of rail commuters have faced severe disruption to their journeys after fresh snowfall overnight with delays and cancellations to services operating out of London Victoria and Charing Cross due to the freezing conditions.
Overnight three Southeastern trains were stuck for about five hours, affecting about 60 passengers.
This pales into insignificance, of course, compared to the mayhem on our roads with the RAC reporting that callouts to breakdowns peaked at 2,000-an-hour on Tuesday.
