Well, well, well. So it seems that Network Rail is in trouble for not learning lessons after a number of accidents at the open level crossing where Angus and Margaret MacKay lost their lives last year.
A report by the RIAB has said that this failure to learn from four previous incidents at the open level crossing had contributed to the deaths of Mr and Mrs MacKay.
Although Network Rail are correct in saying that most deaths at level crossings are the drivers’ fault that doesn’t mean that we should give drivers more help in making the right decision.
This means either installing gates or vastly improving the visibility of signage around open level crossing – it was Mr MacKay’s poor sight which was blamed for the accident.
