Topic: Tube strikes
I really have no time for the tube drivers or the RMT. I was a RMT member years gone by but stopped as I did not agree with what they were doing and saying on certain issues.
Train drivers are greedy. They are overpaid enough as it is. They do not deserve any bonus at all during the New Year or Olympics. They get their enhanced rates already; they negotiated new rates every year as every year a threat emerges from them.
Whether a train is empty or packed, it makes the job no more difficult. This is the excuse that London bus drivers are also using now for their threat of strikes. I personally would rather see TFL/LUL stand their ground, say NO and mean NO at every threat of strike action. LUL have given in every time and the unions know this. The commuters are outraged as the drivers get such high pay. I personally believe that if LUL refuse to pay more and the strikes go ahead, people will get by and manage. Drivers do not get paid for striking, so they will lose out in the end. The unions can cry as much as they like. I believe that LUL will receive more respect for saying NO than giving in again to the union demands.
