Wales – or Cardiff at least – has had a double-dose of good rail news, following the decision to electrify the Great Western Main Line and now Network Rail’s £200m investment in signalling, track and station upgrades
Cardiff Central, Cardiff Queen Street, Barry, Tir-phil, Caerphilly and Pontypridd are getting new platforms, while the track at Cardiff East Junction is being improved and ‘untangled’.
It shows at least that after major infrastructure projects for London and the South-East, Scotland, the Midlands, and now the Northern Hub, there is still some spare for Wales.
Now to keep a careful eye on ERTMS on the Cambrian Line: one area of rail infrastructure, at least, where Wales has come first.
