Transport bodies got off relatively lightly in the bonfire of the quangos. A total of 15 were affected of which six were abolished including the Railway Heritage Committee.
The Railway Heritage Committee, something of a soft target, was abolished for no better reason than that “no equivalent protection applies to the heritage items of any other transport sector”.
A somewhat feeble reason for getting rid of a worthwhile body. My commiserations to members of the Railway Heritage Committee, particularly Neil Butters, its only paid official.
