The train punctuality figures for June this year made uncomfortable reading.
Whilst it is good to see many of the major train operators making significant improvements to their services, there was one result which did trouble me.
The fact that East Coast, the only government run train operator, came bottom of the table is deeply worrying. For a start it casts a cloud of doubt over the competency of government departments to run anything. If they cannot run a railway, what can they run?
The results may have brought a smile to Sir Moir Lockhead’s face, as they revealed that the now relatively strong First Capital Connect is ahead of East Coast - run by Elaine Holt, FCC’s ex-boss – who quit at its lowest point and then very quickly took up the job to run what is now the worst
performing railway in Britain.
