I was always under the impression that we had an election and then the people who got the most votes won and ruled our country.
However, given the odd way in which our parliament works, we are now in situation where the two parties who received the least votes are now vying in backroom deals to secure their grip on power.
And at what cost?
Well possibly the country’s AAA credit rating for a start… if the powers that be in the financial world become too concerned that our ‘government’ is dithering then our rating will be downgraded and no-one will lend us money for things like our rail system.
What we need is another election and now, so that concrete decisions on spending can be made and the rail spending secured, instead of the pathetic currying of favour between opposing political forces which is happening at the moment.
