Following boasts made by ATOC that the vast majority of passengers would be unaffected by Bank Holiday weekend engineering, I promised to give a review of services as I found them.
Well, I must say that I was pleasantly surprised and that although I met with a reduced schedule, I was able to get to where I needed to go over the weekend, which I suppose is the point of the railways.
However, it must be said that I was incredibly disappointed
to find that the advance ticket reservation system was not functioning properly this weekend, meaning that even though I was buying my tickets in advance, I could not take advantage of any lower ticket prices.
Given the recent furore over selling first class tickets for services with little or no first class on them, I would have
thought that the TOCs would have been on top of any ticketing problems by now…
