After the recent political turmoil it felt good last night to see David Cameron take office.
Let us all hope that he can stand the test of leading a country with a huge structural deficit, which is not only dependent on its government to provide local services, but also jobs.
This applies in the rail industry as well, because of the huge government subsides which rail takes from the Treasury. Things need to change and now is the time to do it.
The rail industry should be just that, an independent sector which does not have to bow and scrape to politicians just to survive.
Now is the time for us to take control of our industry, because the government certainly won’t be writing any more blank cheques to bail out rail.
