I almost feel a little sorry for Philip Hammond.
He now has the eyes of the entire rail industry staring at him, wondering what he is going to do next.
It was good news to start with; Crossrail is safe. But what
of other rail projects?
What of all the promises made by the last government of massive spending and transport hubs in the North? Will they be safe from the impending cuts?
I suppose in Mr Hammond’s defence, he wasn’t the one who promised all of this, was he?
However, given that rough estimations tell us that total investment from the public sector in rail (including Transport for London) is going to top £11 billion this financial year, I don’t think that we have too much to worry about.
