Jarvis workers can finally look forward to receiving their unpaid wages after an industrial tribunal on Monday.
When Jarvis Rail collapsed, it was sudden and messy. Now the company no longer exists, it cannot provide the money, leaving it to the taxpayer to stump up the £3m owed.
Conveniently, all the senior managers were paid on time, and have since found other work. It’s a sad fact that the people highest up the chain are always going to avoid the worst of the trouble, leaving everyone else to struggle.
Obviously, with no money and mounting debts, it was impossible to settle satisfactorily with all their workers, yet this inequality highlights the unfairness of our society, which is disproportionately attuned to helping those who need it least.
Those with the most money and prestige will always quietly turn out on top.
