I was glad to hear that Virgin staff have called off their industrial action planned for tomorrow.
It strikes me (excuse the pun) that, during this time of economic difficulty, all of us should pull together to maintain our places of work, whether they be jobs in rail or otherwise.
The only thing that can be achieved by striking in a downturn is an increased likelihood of weakening our employers to the point where it is no longer financially viable for them to continue. And who wins when the company goes under?
No one, except the bank which gets to repossess your house and no one wants to do bankers a favour at the moment.
So let’s keep hold of our rail jobs and our homes and when the green shoots of recovery really do start to be seen, we will be well placed to demand a little bit more in our rail job pay packets.
