TV show mocks rail industry
 The rail industry, which has been criticised in the past for taking itself a little too seriously, took a light hearted battering on a recent episode of the
hit TV comedy panel show Mock The Week.
The jokes began to fly after the show’s host Dara O’Brien asked a question relating to Sunday’s debacle where
London Midland had to cancel many of its services due to
lack of staff volunteering to work.
The show’s panellists were shown the statistic “1 in 500”
and they were then invited to guess which topical news
story it related to; according to the show, it was the amount of London Midland trains which ran on Sunday.
Panellists then began to poke fun at London
Midland for wondering why no staff had
volunteered to work on Sundays, after the company withdrew its policy of paying double time on Sundays.
One panellist commented that London Midland staff refusing
to work for less money on Sundays ‘wasn’t like phoning in sick… more like phoning in and saying you’ve got self respect.’ |
