New ORR guidance suggests that fatigue can negatively affect a wider range of rail workers than those conducting safety-critical work.
It serves as a potent reminder that, in this 24-hour world, sometimes we need to take the time to rest. Fatigue at work can have terrible consequences, especially when this can impact on the public as it does in rail.
Having all workers as alert as possible is a responsibility of the employer that is both a safety requirement and a benefit to the individual’s health.
Taking a bit more time to ensure fatigue is managed effectively is therefore beneficial to all those involved; employees, employers and service users.
