I am all for the recommendations made by the Public
Accounts Committee – train operators feel many benefits from the rail industry, so they need to share those benefits arounds by buying more rolling stock.
This could at once increase the number of rail jobs, whilst also boosting capacity - and give the TOCs a little bit more independence from the DfT.
However, as we all learn when leave home for the first time – independence has a price.
Lets hope the TOCs are willing to pay that price.
