The Infrastructure Plan has outlined large-scale investment into multiple rail projects, updating and improving stations, electrification of lines and the construction of major new links.
Many have welcomed the funding and especially the reduction in the new year fare increases, yet call for continued maintenance of existing infrastructure at the same time as faster delivery of these highlighted projects.
Unfortunately, all these things cannot be done at once.
Approval for projects brings with it further expectations, arguments and demands for more to be done, quicker and cheaper.
Aiming high and refusing to accept less than the best is an ambitious outlook that can motivate providers and managers to work to deliver on standard.
However, these campaigners must also acknowledge that realistically, certain projects, and certain aspects of projects will take precedence to satisfying their every stipulation.
