Running and maintaining Britain’s railways is a big responsibility and bad performance can cost lives – we have found this out only too well and to the cost of others.
My heart goes out to any family who has lost a loved one to an accident on the railways – even one is one too many. Let’s hope that we can all work together for the greater good and so that the tragic events of Potter’s Bar are not repeated.
There is no room in the rail industry for ‘that’ll do’ – we must strive for excellence and nothing else.
However we must still work to make our railways more efficient – but safe at the same time.
