It appears to me that whilst Network Rail is willing to make cut backs to its maintenance crews, it doesn’t seem quite so willing to reduce the size of its management teams.
At a time when front line services are going to be stretched - whether that is through actual redundancy or through smaller overall staffing levels due to natural wastage - why is the same approach so obviously being taken towards Network Rail’s management structures?
Only last week they appointed a new route director - why wasn’t this responsibility taken up by another route director?
