Yesterday was a bad day for rail.
Dean Finch, the head of National Express, hinted that his company – who only last year reneged on their responsibilities running the East Coast Mainline – might be interested in getting involved in rail operations again, but only if the government restructured the franchise model.
To what, Dean? No responsibility towards your franchise at all?
Considering that Mr Finch left his last company, the now defunct Tube Lines, after only seven months in his rail job, I wouldn’t say that the prospects for his longevity in any future rail franchise look too good.
