To follow the calls for better passenger service and higher performance, the ORR could soon be given further powers to protect passenger interests and monitor train service standards.
This responsibility could help the regulator to enforce higher quality standards onto the industry, as well as improving the way passenger complaints are handled.
Should this be transferred to the ORR or should it remain the responsibility of the Department for Transport?
Being the rail regulator obviously signifies the ORR’s role as a monitor for the rail industry, and this could enhance their authority.
Would it also increase their ability to make concrete changes to the way passengers are handled and performance prioritised?
