Sir Richard Branson has come out saying he is willing to invest around £100 million in station modernisation along the Virgin route.
Is this good for rail jobs? Yes!
However this would comes at a cost, in that more freedoms would have to be given to the train operating companies in regards to their franchise agreements.
There have been concerns voiced that this could lead to passenger service being compromised in the long term.
So what to do?
Have better stations, whilst providing rail jobs at the same time or stay in the situation we are in at the moment, with TOCs relinquishing franchises and shabby stations on the news.
Its time for the government to make its mind up.
