Yet again the RMT has leaked an ‘official document’ which suggests that many people are to lose their rail jobs.
I have two reservations about this. Firstly, even if the organisation doing the sacking is extremely embarrassed by the leak, I doubt whether that embarrassment will be enough to counter the economic pressures facing the organisation.
Also, in the current climate, news of large scale rail job losses can have a dramatic affect on economic markets which in turn can destabilise other organisations in the rail industry.
This means that an ill timed press release, which may contain what turns out to be erroneous information, can potentially do far more damage than the original rail job losses it was supposed to avert.
