Today David Cameron gave one of the greatest performances of his life; he looked ready to become prime minister. He spoke with honesty about the need to rein in government spending to get the country back on track.
However this honesty brings with it the threat of cuts to rail investment and therefore a threat to future and current rail jobs.
The problem is that Labour have made the country so dependent on state handouts that when those hand outs are taken away the systems just wont be able to sustain themselves.
Many will lose their government bankrolled jobs; this will lead to greater competition in the rail jobs market as well, with even more vying for fewer and fewer vacancies in rail.
That is if, whoever wins the next election (because cuts will happen what ever happens on polling day; they are unfortunate fact of our times) forgets how vital rail is to our economy and our growth as a sustainable country.
