There have been reports that operators bidding for the new East Coast Mainline franchise will be including plans to reopen the buffet car which was scrapped by National Express.
It will be good to see operators working to value back into
the services which they operate and improving rail services for the passengers who depend on them.
Apparently the Department for Transport has made the inclusion of facilities to provide hot meals a prerequisite of
the franchise agreement.
The government is also discussing bringing back the Flying Scotsman as a sub-four-hour service between London and Edinburgh. Although this may prove to be tricky because of the complicated negotiations which need to take place.
It seems then a lot of hard work to do, but at least it is hard work worth doing.
