My heart leapt in my chest when I saw the RMT press release claiming that Network Rail was planning to shed 13,000 rail jobs and then re-employ a smaller amount.
Of course Network Rail have vehemently denied this accusation; however the idea must have come from somewhere and if it has been fabricated, then the people who made it up are playing a very dangerous game.
Headlines in newspaper affect markets, which affect the economy, which in turn affects the number of rail jobs available.
Remember the banking crisis? That was started by rumours.
So if people still want to have a rail industry left and jobs in rail to go to everyday, then they need to be far more careful
about what they say to the press.
