I am confused about all the talk about high speed rail.
I understand why people like Jim Steer at Greengauge 21
are interested in there being a new high speed rail system in Britain; he is a passionate advocate of the issue and it is clear that a system such as this would have great benefits for the UK.
What I do not understand is all the talk coming from government; people can dream, but who is going to pay for it? Seriously, where is the money coming from for high
speed rail?
It looks likely that transport budgets, if anything, will be cut.
So I would ask the government to stop raising everybody’s hopes and to only make announcements that they intend to, or will even have chance to, honour.
