Questions have been raised over whether the treasury can actually afford the high speed plans which are due to be announced today.
Given that our country is currently running budget problems, equal to those being experienced by Greece, it is questionable as to whether the best course of action is to keep on spending.
Although such a project could create many thousands of rail jobs, it should only be taken forward if it is sustainable and affordable or it risks plunging our country into even deeper economic trouble.
The government in this country has been far too willing to spend money erroneously for far too long and that is how
we have ended up in the mess we are in now.
So let’s not do it all over again, eh?
