It has been reported that losses at the Bombardier workshop in Ilford may not be as bad as once thought.
As a consequence of union talks, Bombardier have reportedly increased the number of rail jobs to be saved, along with agreeing to investigate whether other workers could be moved to projects in the capital.
Unions officials have said that there will hopefully only be 25 compulsory redundancies, after Bombardier lost a heavy maintenance contract.
Both sides have admitted that the rail industry is facing hard times and that they have both done everything they can to lessen the blow to local jobs in rail.
Personally I think that this is a fine example of private sector
organisations and unions working together for the common good. In my mind it is not time to strike; it is time to talk.
