At the official launch of the National Skills Academy for Rail Engineering yesterday there was a palpable feeling of excitement in the air.
It was obvious to even the most cynical reporter that everyone in the room listening to Lord Adonis’ brief speech saw this event as a major step forward for the rail industry.
But as the transport secretary mentioned, it is now up the industry to make these skills academies a success, which will require the investment of both time and money.
So if you really care about the future of rail and the future of the young people who will take the industry forward into the 21 st century, then please demonstrate this by actually doing something about it.
