News broke last week that the government had decided not to progress its order for new intercity rolling stock from the Agility trains consortium until after the election.
And it is not just postponing it; it is setting up an inquiry into whether the proposed deal actually offers value for money.
Considering the amount of time and effort which Agility and its competitors put into their bids for this rolling stock tender
in the first place, I think that they could be forgiven be a little annoyed at the government’s behaviour.
This could also be an indication of what to expect from the government in the run up the election; lots of promises but very little delivery, even after polling day.
