Network Rail is to be quizzed next month by MPs over its decision to cut around 1800 rail jobs in an effort to reduce
its expenditure.
The not-for-profit company will have to face questioning
from the House of Commons Transport Select Committee, over how it plans to cut around 20 per cent of its work
force.
The organisation, which needs to reduce its expenditure by £4 billion over the next five years, has come under heavy criticism for deciding to reduce its work force at a time when usage of the railways is rising.
Some unions have even warned that to cut rail maintenance jobs would leave our railways unsafe. Network Rail denies
this.
