It is very disturbing to hear of the occasional acts of violence that occur on our railway.
I was particularly upset to hear of the case of a woman who was almost electrocuted, being thrown onto the rails for asking someone to stop smoking.
People should feel safe on our railways and there should always be staff on hand to offer support to those in need.
Sometimes it is the staff who need the help, such as the incident in Canterbury where a man waved around an imitation gun at staff who had woken him from his sleep on a late night train.
In these cases, passengers, staff and the British Transport Police need to work together to tackle the problem, because we should all be able to feel safe.
