There is no doubt that the loss of 1500 rail jobs will constitute a major blow to Network Rail and that everything should be done to ensure that the number of rail job losses is as small as possible and that the safety of the public will not be compromised.
It is also important that those with jobs in rail work as hard as ever to keep those jobs and not undermine public confidence in the rail network, by constantly striking.
It can only be by increasing the productivity of our railways and taking responsibility for the success of our network, that all with jobs in rail can benefit.
