It would seem that unless Gordon Brown can pull something spectacular out of the bag, the Conservatives will probably win the next election.
However, whichever party wins reductions in public spending will have to be made and therefore we run the risk of losing investment in rail.
As I’ve said before this wouldn’t be good news for the economy or the rail industry, as we need as many new jobs in rail to be created as possible to keep up consumer spending and taxation revenues from this sector.
Unfortunately, if the rail job cuts made by Network Rail are anything to go by, this probably won’t happen.
There is also worry about big projects like Crossrail being put on a back burner; hopefully if Cameron does win, Boris Johnson will be able to talk him into keeping the project and there safeguard all the associated rail jobs that go with it.
