Times are hard and rail jobs are scarce. People’s tempers are frayed and relationships between employers and employees can be difficult; but that does not warrant the destruction of an industry by those who depend most on it for their living.
The recent willingness of workers to use industrial action to get what they want maybe having a short term positive impact on their wages but is causing a loss of confidence in the rail network by passengers.
Headlines which talk about no rail services on Sundays are not going to encourage anyone to use rail services; most will simply use a car instead. This could eventually lead to a significant fall in rail use, which will result in a loss of rail jobs.
People will only use rail if it is convenient, so don’t push the public too far.
