Even the best laid plans can fall apart.
So given that a recent announcement on a possible new Flying Scotsman service was the government’s idea, yesterday’s u-turn was hardly a shock.
It seems that Lord Adonis’ plans to have a four hour service between London and Edinburgh had not been entirely
thought through when Karen Boswell of East Coast (and formerly of the now embattled First Capital Connect) had to admit that these plans were purely ‘aspirational’.
Aspirational eh? Is that government code for never, ever going to happen?
I really do not know why politicians are bothering at the moment; they should take the next few months off, because they are going to achieve very little before the election except make promises that they can not keep.
