I was intrigued to hear about the Serious Fraud office’s investigation which has resulted in three Alstom board members being arrested.
The SFO has said that arrests were made because of ‘ bribery and corruption, conspiracy to pay bribes, money laundering and false accounting.’ That’s quite a list of
charges for only three people to be facing.
Couple this with Stephen Byers’ claims about influencing arranging around the handing-over of the East Coast
Mainline to the government, along with the controversy around the fact that Lib Dem transport spokesperson and
rail enthusiast Norman Baker had not declared interests
when leading debates and you might begin to feel that
there is something not quite right about it all!
Along with these issues, the country is facing major strikes both on the rail network and the Underground system.
Let’s hope next few weeks are better!
